Planning for future and simplifying

Last class we were able to meet with our instructor and we were able to discuss the different ideas we had for our project. It was honestly really useful because it seemed like we had kind of been doing tooo much. As soon as we got to explaining our idea to her, it was very complicated and we realized that we were trying to develop too many ideas. We also realized some aspects of our story may be unnecessary.

A big fear while we were developing our story was to create cartoonisized (is that even a word?) version of our characters. We wanted to really show the nuance in this love story and how the characters deal with their experiences. Stoklosa showed us that by having one of the characters be the stereotype of the homophobic bully who is really experiencing internalized homophobia may be too extreme and unnecesary and may fall towards being a caricature of a commonly used trope.

As a result we've decided to simplify our story further. This has always been a big consideration, especially since my first research blog post and ever since one of the primary motifs of the blog has been keep. it. simpleee. Coming from a background of heavy interest in social science and all of that I feel that I always try to do too much with my projects. For this one I really want to try to fight against those insticts to add complexity and keep it as simple as it can be. So we've decided that we are probably going to drop that character idea of the closeted girl being outwardly homophobic, it just doesn't feel neccesary.

We've compiled our brainstorming in this google docs document.

Considerations going forward: Meeting up as a group we also decided to make an action plan for the next two weeks. Importantly, one of our group members was going to be gone for a few classes for a Film competition! However, this meant we had to get more organized. We decided while she was gone me and my other group member would work on our social media prescence as this research and production work could be done without our other member and its important we get our social media started very soon.
