The music Marketing Project is over! This Project has been my favorite one to work on for this class
yet, and has me excited for what's next!
Research and Brainstorming
In
the Previous Post I went a little into our research and brainstorming
process, but, I'd like to dive a little deeper, and analyze in the
aftermath what went well and what could have gone better. In our
research process, we analyzed a lot of general rock bands, to try to
figure out what the industry standard was, main marketing, publishing
strategies, etc. This was good and it gave us a lot of good ideas for
what people were doing in the industry, though I do think that if time
permitted, going even further with our research, to other bands who
closely matched our vision, and deeper into industry practices, our
presentation could have been elevated to the next level.
Production
The production process was a part that I wasn't able to be totally involved in because I was unavailable during some of the time. For filming, we relied on multiple locations. The first one was Manuela's house since it had a pool, and we needed it for filming. This is where we did one of our most involved shots, which was our underwater shot, where we had to put our phone into the water, and dive in. And, where we also did a shot where Faye had to be underwater "held down" by two weights. The second one was a street at night with streetlamps, on a street that had yellow streetlamps to give us the dark, mood we wanted at night. Here we filmed the shots of Faye walking the streets at night, while the promotion shots of Faye were shot against a simple blank wall. We used an I-phone 14 camera to film, which came in handy to create our underwater scenes due to the I-phone's water-resistant capabilities.
Post-Production
Nicole,
the designated group post-production whiz (even winning state and
national awards with our TV Production club), took the main load with
the editing. We discussed editing techniques that we could use
in our production during our story boarding process, and Nicole executed
them perfectly. The editing, focused on matching the song to the beat,
and using cuts between different scenes to showcase symbolism from our
story, and transition between the combination of the artistic parts and
the promotion parts of our video. The credits where done by Faye, where
she was able to match all of the people involved in the creation of the
video, in a beautiful animated credits sequence.
Presentation
The work on the presentation was split fairly evenly between each of our group members. In order to have a modern and graphically-interesting presentation we decided it would be best to work on Canva. This allowed us to incorporate a variety of visual aids into our presentation, and have visually engaging slides.
(example from our presentation, where we where able to incorporate a mockup of an instagram page)
This
also allowed easy cooperation, between the group members (for a time).
However, when we had to record, we did realize that Canva was slightly
problematic to cooperate with when it came to adding audio, as it did
not allow us to easily add sound to each individual slide. Every time
one of our group members would add a sound, it would instead shift the
whole timeline, leading us to have a frenzy of adding and deleting and
shifting around our audios until it eventually fit just right. In the
future, for any presentations with audio, this experience taught us that
it may be better to use a dedicated editing software like premiere pro,
or upload our slides to power-point and add audio there.
(the canva audio timeline that kept shifting any-time we would add a new audio)
In reflecting of the overall experience of this project, the most important thing I learned was the importance of having a good relationship with your teammates from the onset, and choosing people who you know you'll work well with. We also created a good system for delegating tasks, which allowed each of us to focus on the parts that we were best at, while ensuring that we were still able to accomplish everything we had to create.
