First day of Filming

The first day of filming finally elapsed, and it went pretty well! This day didn't involve any actors, just me, as I was only getting shots of a plane landing at an airport, and then of the outside of my car.

In order to capture the shot we went to the designated airport viewing area. My local aiport has a designated viewing area, that was super convenient for capturing this shot.

Setting up my shots at the Airport

The experience was overall not too bad, but there were a few challenges. First planes only went by every few minutes, sometimes there would be  5-10 minute wait between planes landing. This made it hard to capture one solid shot and led us to staying there for about an hour to capture multiple different angles and styles, and make sure I would have choice in the editing process.

One thing that definately came in handy and that I'm glad I did, was all the research on how to use a camera. As someone who hadn't used a DSLR without assistance before, it definitely improved my film to be able to adjust ISO, Shutter Speed, and Aperture to get the shot I desired. Specifically I made sure to set a wide aperture, to make sure the whole shot was in focus since it was a wide shot and meant to fully capture the whole scene.

However, looking back at the shots I got, there was one crucial setting I forgot and that was White Balance!! This made the research have a slightly warm tint, however I'll make sure to adjust this in editing. I quickly researched this video, which includes a section on how to adjust white balance on the  Canon SL2, and he explains the quick way to adjust white balance through the camera's settings. Going to make sure to keep this in mind in future filming days, and make sure to adjust from the auto if the colors look off.
