After looking at a specific campaing with Past Lives, I wanted to get a broader look at a few things to consider when using Social media to market film. Since the social media world is so quick moving I wanted to find a more recent article to study, so I looked up "Film social media marketing" on google and scrolled through until I found a recent article that seemed fairly reliable. I found this 2024 piece from "Filmmakersacademy.com". From what I can gather it seems like a company focused on creating blogs and videos educating on different topics surrounding film-making and from a quick initial scroll and then deep read of the article it seems to offer some solid nuggets of advice.
The article is formatted in a series of 7 social media tips for filmmakers. As I read, I am going to go through the ones that stood out to me and list my key takeaways for my project.
1st key takeaway
This first tip had honestly completely escaped my mind from consideration until I saw it here in the article. Main tip is to keep it to the film title only for simplicity. Since writings on the bathroom walls is a bit of a long name there is a few different ways we could go. Either we could acronymize it (inventing words again but so did shakespeare so whatever). If we do it this way it would be like "TWOTBW", which is honestly pretty uggly so as famed philosopher ariana grande once said thank u next. The other option is to make the title a little shorter, something like bathroomwalls, bathroomwallsfilm, bthroomwalls. If all of those are taken, adding a few periods, underscores, or the word film could help.
2nd key takeaway
Using the bio carefully, include essential info like genre, quick explanation of the project, and a linktree to any other materials we decide to use such as a website or other socials
3rd Takeaway
Using a creator account is easy and just requires changing a button in settings and unlocks being able to schedule posts.
4th Takeway
This one is lowkey self explanatory but I think its still a good reminder, and it has to do with what to post. What this article emphasizes is to post whats authentic to you and your brand. On Social media there are always new trends coming on and off and I think its important to realize that building an authentic brand identity should go first.
