The grass is always greener on the other side

We've been having some challenges recently. As you may know if you've been reading my blog, but it merits reminding one of my group members was out all of the past 2 weeks before last for a big competition. They were back for one day, which was very productive and which we got together as a group and we recognized the problems that still remained with our project. During this meeting we agreed that she was going to work on social media and make your first post. Then, sickness struck her, dun dun dun.

 For the record she's fine it's just flu, but she was out this whole week, this really took us out as a group. We all have a very particular dynamic in which we each filler a very specific role of the group and without all of us we don't really work as well. Therefore this week was kind of a struggle. And, we got a little behind on our social media because our communication has been kind of sparse. Over the weekend I tried to get in contact with my group, but they weren’t able to respond.

We've also had a few other challenges, I recently found out that neither of my group members would be here during spring break. When making my own schedules, and regarding the pace that we were working on the project with I had always assumed that they would be here during spring break and I had planned for us to do a lot of filming and editing during that time. But now since only I'm going to be here during spring break it seems as if I'm going to have to take a lot of the load on editing, and it's as if we're going to have to do the filming ASAP on an accelerated schedule.

 

But there's also another problem with that since one of the people who we are trying to get to act one of the roles is not gonna be able to act for a lot of days this week which overall is only gonna leave Wednesday as a day to film this week. What this kind of all means, is that we're going to have to get all of our filming done Wednesday and we don't even feel completely ready yet.

I am starting to think, I took for granted the benefits of working alone. I I thought being in a group would help us all keep better in task with each other. But honestly all it has done is added extra inefficiencies to the process and we have not been able to get a good deal as a group and it's been hard to find agreeing ideas on where you wanna take the project and when we're free or when we're busy. There's a lot of other extra factors I hadn't considered when I was working alone last year versus when you work in a group. Last week, the last time we were all here my group was kind of sulking. I tried to tell them we just needed to start writing and planning, So I started on a script and storyboard I’ll share in the next blog, but its kind of hard to do those things when everyone is not on the same page.

So, the status we are going into this week with, is a little crisis mode. We have Wednesday to film, and we still need to finalize our planning before that day, finalize any props mise-en scene, etc, and working on our social media. I am going to focus on doing what I can with the script and the storyboard, meet on Monday and figure the rest out with them, and I can trust that we will emerge from this.
